MERCHANT MARINE TRAINING SCHOOL ESTABLISHES A MODEL ROOM TO ADVANCE MARITIME EDUCATION

The Merchant Marine Training School (MMTS) inaugurated its Model Room at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) on 07th April 2025. The ceremony was graced by Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, the Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy, as the Chief Guest, marking a milestone in commitment of MMTS to excellence in maritime education.

MMTS was established on 15th August 2011 at NMA, recognizing its pivotal role in shaping skilled seafarers. Since its inception, MMTS has been a cornerstone in providing foundational training for officers and sailors, ensuring their safety and preparedness at sea. Annually, the institute conducts ten (10) courses in ‘Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping’ (STCW) and two (02) courses in ‘Boat Master Grade-1’.

The establishment of the Model Room was a long-standing requirement for MMTS, serving as a key component in improving both practical and theoretical learning for trainees. The newly established Model room, is equipped with detailed maritime models and simulation devices and it is designed to replicate real-world maritime scenarios for hands-on learning, enhance theoretical knowledge through practical application and improve training quality for STCW and Boat Master Certification programmes.

Establishment of the Model Room ensures that future mariners trained at MMTS are provided with the best possible training exposure.
