ABOUT US

Damage control practical cell was constructed and commissioned in 1993 to facilitate conducting practical session in the field of damage control. Separate NBCD department was formed under the Engineering School in 1997. Lieutenant(E) RDPP Kumarasiri who was qualified in long NBCD course (India) was the first head of department. Construction of separate infrastructure facilities for NBCD School was commenced in year 2002 and project was completed in year 2003.

Since then the NBCD School has been rendering an indomitable service to Sri Lanka Navy in keeping with the policy of qualify both officers and sailors by imparting sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to extinguish any fire, control any damage or to survive in NBCD environment within naval ships and establishments to ensure the effective function of Sri Lanka Navy.

The Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defence, Fire fighting and Damage Control are essential aspects for a Navy. The NBCD School conducts the classes as well as practical training sessions for all the under trainees of the Naval & Maritime Academy to enhance the knowledge on above subjects. Further, all the trainees get the opportunity to experience a fire situation in a closed compartment, live major fire in the Fire pit and the Damage control situation at the DC simulator at the NBCD School. The practical training also enhance the ability of quick responding, decision making and endurance to withstand during emergency situations at sea of trainees. In addition, trainees have the opportunity to gather adequate knowledge on Fire fighting, Damage Control and NBCD aspects at the model room located at NBCD School.

The Instructors in NBCD School are professionally trained and competent in their subjects such as fire fighting, Damage Control and NBC Defence aspects and well experienced in practical scenarios.

During a calendar year, NBCD School conducts 08 principle courses and also provides their valuable service to FOCNF Staff training team and 4FAF training team during their OST sessions. All most all the officers and sailors in fleet units are trained at NBCD School premises under the guidance of FOCNF Staff training team and 4 FAF training team with the assistance of Instructors of NBCD School.

We train naval personnel to extinguish any fire, control any damage or to survive in NBCD environment within naval ships and establishments to ensure the effective function of Sri Lanka Navy.
