ABOUT US

Nautical School had been one of the prime schools during the past 36 years of history of the Naval and Maritime Academy and had contributed overwhelming support to mould officers and sailors for the Sri Lanka Navy. Later, it was divided into three separate schools with the aim of promoting training facilities. As a result, on 6th of May 2007 the Navigation school emerged.

The prime aim of the navigation school is to qualify both officers and sailors imparting sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical training on safe navigation at sea at various levels to perform their specified duties in the most efficient manner on naval ships and craft.

Navigation school performs a tremendous task in the Naval and Maritime Academy. It forges naval officers and sailors in the best possible way, as such it imparts sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical training that are needed in safe, efficient and competent navigation.

Officer Training

  • The Long Navigation Specialization Course (LNSC) is one of the premier professional specialization courses conducts for officers of the Executive Branch in the Navy. The course aimed to impart professional knowledge and practical application of navigation required by selected officers to perform duties as Specialized Navigating Officer of any class of Ship and any shore appointment related to Navigation. The course duration is 38 weeks which includes theory, practical also two weeks of foreign training in Indian Navy.

Sailor Training

  • Boatmen (Coastwise) course is a professional advance course which designed to make senior sailors of seaman branch competent to command Coastal Patrol Craft (CPC) and Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) by imparting required theoretical knowledge and practical exposure before they entrusted to command such craft. The duration of the course is 24 weeks.

  • The course is designed to make senior sailors of seaman branch competent to command Coastal Patrol Craft (CPC) and Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) by imparting required professional knowledge and practical exposure before they entrusted to command above category of craft. The duration of the course is 4 weeks.

  • This course is the advanced course of Radar Plotter phase III course which designed to enhance the professional knowledge and practical application of navigation required by RP sailors to perform duties at navigation department of any class of the ship in the Navy and any shore base. The course duration is 20 weeks which includes theory as well as practical.

  • Radar Plotter phase III course is designed to impart the basic professional knowledge and practical application of navigation required by RP sailors to perform duties at navigation department of any class of the ship in the Navy and any shore base. The course duration is 18 weeks which includes theory as well as practical.
