MERCHANT MARINE TRAINING SCHOOL SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE STCW BASIC SAFETY AND MARITIME ENGLISH (SUPPORT LEVEL) COURSES

Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Basic Safety and Maritime English (Support Level) Course No. 02/2025 (S) and Course No. 03/2025 (S), was held at the Mini Auditorium of the Naval and Maritime Academy on 5th April 2025. The ceremony was graced by the Deputy Training Captain, Captain (G) WADG Athukorala, as the Chief Guest.

The courses commenced on 3rd March 2025, with the participation of 40 sailors and all course participants were awarded certificates for the STCW Basic Safety modules upon successful completion of the courses.

The objective of this course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as the training required to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) from the Merchant Shipping Secretariat (MSS). The course enhances the competencies of the participants to carry out their duties onboard merchant ships in a professional manner. The training at MMTS is conducted in accordance with the directives of the Merchant Shipping Secretariat and the STCW Convention, guiding the future aspirations of naval personnel who wish to join the Merchant Marine field.
