MERCHANT MARINE TRAINING SCHOOL SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE STCW BASIC SAFETY AND MARITIME ENGLISH (SUPPORT LEVEL) COURSE NO. 01 /2025(O) AND COURSE NO. 01 /2025(S) AT NMA.

The Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch keeping (STCW) Basic Safety and Maritime English (Support Level) Course Nos. 01/2025 (O) and 01/2025 (S) were held at the Engineering School Auditorium of the Naval and Maritime Academy on 8th February 2025. The courses commenced on 6th January 2025, with the participation of 8 officers and 32 senior sailors.

The primary objective of these courses is to provide participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as the necessary training required to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC). The modules were conducted in accordance with the directives of the Merchant Shipping Secretariat and the STCW Convention, thereby aligning with the future aspirations of naval personnel seeking to retire from the Sri Lanka Navy. These courses provided participants with the opportunity to enhance their competencies, enabling them to carry out their duties onboard merchant ships with confidence and professionalism.

Upon successful completion of the courses, all participants were awarded certificates for the STCW Basic Safety modules. The Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy, Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
