The women’s Athletic team of the Naval and Maritime Academy comprised of the Training Command became the Runner-Up of the Inter Command Athletic Championship 2024 which was held at the Naval and Maritime Academy Athletic Ground from 01st to 02nd June 2024. Athletes representing all the Naval Commands participated in the tournament to unleash their skills on the court. After two days of tussling, the women’s team of the Training Command was crowned as the Runner-Up while the men’s team of the Training Command secured the 03rd Place in the Inter Command Athletic Championship 2024.
The second half of the final day was disturbed by heavy rains which led to the abandonment of 03 track events and 01 Field event. Leading Seaman WMBM Wasala of the Naval and Maritime Academy was selected as the best athlete in the Inter Command Athletic Championship 2024 while acquiring gold and silver medals for 400m and 4 x 400 m men’s track events. A/ Sub Lieutenant RMT Sewwandi, W/ Ordinary Seaman Sewwandi and W/ Ordinary Seaman LJKS Jayawickrama acquired gold medals for the High Jump, Pole Vault and Shot Put respectively.
The Training Command women’s team acquired 03 gold medals, 08 silver medals and 03 bronze medals to become Runner-Upwhile the men’s team received 01 gold medal, 07 silver medals and 02 bronze medals securing the place of 02nd runners up in the Inter Command Athletic Championship 2024. The Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral BAKSP Banagoda graced the finals and prize awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest.
