The NBCD School, Naval & Maritime Academy in Trincomalee has successfully completed the CBRN First Responders Basic Course 01/2024, which was held from April 24th to May 30th, 2024. This training program aimed to enhance the operational readiness of the Sri Lanka Navy by providing 19 sailors with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to effectively respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents. The comprehensive curriculum included rigorous classroom instruction and hands-on practical exercises covering the identification and detection of CBRN agents, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), decontamination procedures, incident management, and medical response.
Further, the training is to emphasize the effective communication and coordination strategies essential for managing CBRN incidents. The course offered invaluable insights and firsthand knowledge, preparing sailors to handle high-pressure situations with the skills efficiently. The sailors praised the practical exercises and realistic simulations, noting that these elements were instrumental in enhancing their preparedness for real-world scenarios.
