THE 34TH JUNIOR NAVAL STAFF COURSE HAS SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED WITH A GRADUATION CEREMONY AT NMA

The Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 34th Junior Naval Staff Course (JNSC-34) held at the NMA in Trincomalee. The course, which began on January 8, 2024, concluded with a grand graduation ceremony on 17th May 2024, at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium.

A total of 21 officers graduated from JNSC 34 including two officers from the Indian Navy and one officer each from the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force. The Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest on the invitation of Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, the Commandant of the NMA.

The Chief Guest addressed the esteemed gathering and congratulated the Student Officers on reaching their career milestones. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and delivered a compelling speech on the significant role of the Junior Naval Staff Course in shaping proficient leaders capable of navigating complexities in strategic decision-making.

The rigorous academic and professional training programme of JNSC 34 is designed to prepare mid-career officers for future leadership roles within the Sri Lanka Navy and broader defence services. The curriculum covered various subjects including Maritime strategy, Maritime operations, and leadership through theoretical and practical learning.

During the ceremony, several Student Officers were awarded with special awards for their exceptional achievements. LCdr (C) EMMVR Wickramage was awarded as the First in Overall Order of Merit, Highest Aggregate in Academic Subjects, and Best Public Speaker. LCdr (S) LP Wedisinghe received the award for the Best Commandant’s Service Paper. A special award for the Best International Student Officer was presented for the first time in the history of the Junior Naval Staff Course and secured by Cdr Rajeev Ranjan from the Indian Navy.

The graduation ceremony was a momentous occasion attended by guest invitees from the Eastern Naval Command, the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Air Force, faculty members of the NMA, the Directing Staff of the JNSC, Officer Under Trainees, and family members of the Student Officers.

NMA congratulates all the 34th JNSC graduates and wishes them success in their future endeavors. Their dedication and hard work reflect their commitment to serving the nation with pride and distinction.
