MMTS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES STCW BASIC SAFETY COURSES NO. 02-2024(S) & 03-2024(S)

Certificates Awarding Ceremony of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Basic Safety Course no. 02-2024(S) & no. 03-2024(S) were held at the Mini Auditorium, Naval and Maritime Academy on 04th April 2024. The ceremony was graced by the training captain, Captain Sagara Udayanga as the Chief Guest.

STCW Basic Safety Courses no. 02-2024(S) & no. 03-2024(S) were commenced on 04th  March 2024 with the participation of 20 sailors for each course and all the course participants were awarded the certificates for STCW Basic Safety Course on successful completion of the courses.

The objective of this course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the training required to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC). The course enhances the competencies of the participants to carryout the duties onboard merchant ships in a very successful and effective manner. The courses are conducted in accordance with the directives of the Merchant Shipping Secretariat and the International Maritime Organization’s Constitution.

All instructors of the Merchant Marine Training School and lecturers conducted the respective modules under the intensive supervision of the Commandant, Naval & Maritime Academy, to provide the quality training for the course participants with the vision of producing suitable and skilled seafarers for the field of merchant shipping. This course steers the future aspirations of naval personnel who wish to retire from the Sri Lanka Navy in future and turning their careers into a new dimension.
