MERCHANT MARINE TRAINING SCHOOL (MMTS) COMMENCES THE  STCW BASIC SAFETY AND MARITIME ENGLISH SUPPORT LEVEL COURSES AT NMA

Stepping into another phase, the Merchant Marine Training School commenced the STCW Basic Safety Course No.02 – 2024(S) and STCW Basic Safety Course No.03 – 2024(S) on 04 Mar 24. The Training Captain of the Naval and Maritime Academy, Captain Sagara Udayanga graced the event as the chief guest. Each course consists of 20 sailors, and the courses will be spanned for 5 weeks of time and are scheduled to be terminated on 04 Apr 24.

The objective of the STCW Basic Safety course is to obtain the Continuous Discharging Certificate (CDC). The courses enhance the competencies of the participants to carry out the duties onboard merchant ships in very successful and effective manner. The courses are conducted in accordance with the directives of the Director General of Merchant Shipping and the International Maritime Organisation’s Constitution.

The Merchant Marine Training School conducts classes seeking to impart quality training to the course participants with the vision of producing suitable, skilled seafarers for the field of merchant shipping. This course will steer the future aspirations of naval personnel who seek second career opportunities upon leaving the Sri Lanka Navy in the near future after rendering the service of 22 or a minimum of 12 years.
