In a notable effort to enhance collaboration between academia and the Sri Lankan Navy, Professor Rohitha Dassanayake led a delegation from the University of Peradeniya, comprising faculty members and students, on a visit to the Trincomalee Naval Base. The delegation was warmly received at the Mini Auditorium by Commander Naleen Perera, Officer Training Officer, who, on behalf of the Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy and the entire Sri Lanka Navy, expressed deep gratitude and extended a hearty welcome to the esteemed guests. During the ceremony, Commander Perera emphasized the longstanding tradition of embracing university graduates into naval ranks, recognizing their indispensable role in safeguarding the nation’s defense and maritime security.
The delegation received a detailed briefing on the Naval and Maritime Academy, highlighting its mission and commitment to shaping future naval leaders. Professor Rohitha Dassanayake, in his address to the gathering, expressed gratitude to the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy for granting approval and facilitating the visit, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the Commandant of the Maritime Academy and directing staff. During the visit, the delegation explored the Museum, gaining insights into the nation’s maritime heritage. Engaging activities, including a scenic boat ride in Trincomalee Harbor, added a cultural dimension to the experience. The highpoint was an exclusive tour of Sri Lankan naval ships, specifically those classified as AOPV/OPV.
