MERCHANT MARINE TRAINING SCHOOL (MMTS) COMMENCES THE STCW BASIC SAFETY AND MARITIME ENGLISH SUPPORT LEVEL COURSES AT NMA

Stepping into another phase, the Merchant Marine Training School commenced the STCW Basic Safety course no.01 – 2024(O) and STCW Basic Safety course no.01 – 2024(S) on 16 Jan 24. The Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage graced the event as the Chief Guest. The  STCW  Basic Safety course no.01 – 2024(O)  comprises of 13 officers and STCW  Basic Safety course no.01 – 2024(S) consists of 28 sailors. Both courses will be spanned for 5 weeks and are scheduled to be terminated on 16 Feb 24.

The objective of STCW Basic Safety course is to obtain the Continuous Discharging Certificate (CDC). The courses enhance the competencies of the participants to carry out the duties onboard merchant ships in a very successful and effective manner. The courses are conducted in accordance with the directives of the Director General of Merchant Shipping and the International Maritime Organization’s Constitution.

Merchant Marine Training School conducts classes seeking to impart quality training for the course participants with the vision of producing suitable, skilled seafarers for the field of merchant shipping. This course will steer the future aspirations of officers who seek second career opportunities  and sailors who wish to get their retirement from the Sri Lanka Navy in near future after rendering the service of 22 or minimum 12 years and turning their careers into a new dimension.
