OPENING ADDRESSES OF THE 26TH EXECUTIVE SUB LIEUTENANT TECHNICAL COURSE AND THE 28TH LOGISTICS SUB LIEUTENANT TECHNICAL COURSE

The opening addresses of the 26th Executive Sub Lieutenant Technical course and the 28th Logistics Sub Lieutenant Technical courses were held at the Mini Auditorium at the Naval and Maritime Academy on 16th January 2024. The Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc, psc grace the occasion with his participation as the chief guest. The event featured the participation of officers, including the Deputy Training Captain, the Commanding Officer, the Officer Training Officer, as well as course coordinators and the divisional team, adding significance to the ceremony.

The 26th Executive Sub Lieutenant Technical course  comprised with 25 student officers under trainees (SOUTs) and they joined the NMA for the course after serving on board ships and crafts for their on the job training on completion of their basic training. The 28th Logistics Sub Lieutenant Technical Course comprise with  20 officers, including four female officers, who arrived at the academy from diverse ships and establishments within the logistics field

These courses, designed for 58 and 60 weeks respectively, aiming to grow up the student Officers professionally and to acquire the specialized skills. The curriculums are designed to blend the theoretical knowledge with hands on practical exercises and simulations. Also the emphasis is placed not only on individual skills but also on fostering a spirit of teamwork and collaboration.

Addressing the SOUTs at the opening ceremony, the Commandant emphasized the importance of smart work, commitment, discipline, teamwork and acquiring essential knowledge. Furthermore the commandant highlighted the importance of attending extra-curricular activities and directed to set examples for the junior Officer Under Trainees. The commandant concluded the speech while congratulating all the student officers.
