Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Boat Master Grade – 1 course 02/2023 and STCW Basic Safety and Maritime English (Support Level) course 08/2023 were held at the Mini Auditorium, Naval and Maritime Academy on 21st December 2023 to mark the termination of both the courses. The ceremony was graced by the Commandant, Naval & Maritime Academy, as the chief guest.
The Boat Master Grade – 1 course 02/2023 was commenced with the participation of 19 Executive branch officers and all trainees were awarded the certificates on successful completion of the course.
This course aims to award a Boat Master Grade – 1 licence from the Merchant Shipping Secretariat, Sri Lanka through imparting theoretical and practical knowledge on various aspects of boating and working procedures on board, to SLN personnel, who are leaving SLN by seeking second career opportunities on completion of their reckonable service.
STCW Basic Safety and Maritime English (Support Level) course 08/2023 was commenced with 20 senior and junior sailors on 20th November 2023 and all trainees were awarded the certificates on successful completion of the course.
This course aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the training required to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC). The course enhances the competencies of the participants to carry out the duties of merchant ships in a very successful and effective manner. The course is conducted following the directives of the Director General of Merchant Shipping and the International Maritime Organization’s Constitution.
All instructors of the Merchant Marine Training School and lecturers under the inventive supervision of the Commandant, Naval & Maritime Academy, sought to transform the quality training for the course participants with the vision of producing suitable, skilled seafarers for the field of merchant shipping.
These courses will steer the future aspirations of officers and sailors who wish to retire from the Sri Lanka Navy soon after serving for more than 12 years or 20 years respectively and turning their careers into a new dimension.
