SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION OF ON-SCENE COORDINATOR TRAINING COURSE CONDUCTED BY THE OFFICERS OF FRENCH MRCC OF REUNION ISLAND

An advanced training module on the “operational coordination of emergency response at sea” tailored for officers and sailors of SLN and Sri Lanka Coast Guard, concluded on a successful note in Naval & Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee on 24th November 2023. The training module was conducted by the Deputy Director and Chief Operator of the French MRCC of Reunion Island under the supervision of the Embassy of France in Colombo.

A noteworthy object of the course was to conduct a successful search and rescue operator training module covering both theoretical and practical aspects including tabletop simulations and exercises at sea. The Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage delivered the opening remarks as the chief guest during the opening ceremony which was held on 20th November 2023 at the Mini Auditorium, NMA. Further, Military Technical Cooperation Officer in Maritime Security, Embassy of France, Commander Jean Baptiste Trouche addressed the course participants and emphasised the importance of the module as an opportunity to share the experiences and good practices in Maritime Search and Rescue.

Marking the culmination of the training module on 24th November, a certificate awarding ceremony was held with the participation of Training Captain Naval & Maritime Academy, Captain (N) Chandana Priyantha as the chief guest. During the address, Deputy of French MRCC of Reunion Island, LCdr Carine Bezaud addressed the gathering and delivered the course overview underscoring its pivotal observation and significance of the training module. Fourteen officers/sailors of SLN and SLCG received certificates on successful completion of the course.
