Stepping into another phase, the Merchant Marine Training School commenced the Boatmaster Grade I – 02 (2023) course and STCW Basic Safety course no.08-2023 (S) on 20 Nov 23. The Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage graced the event as the Chief Guest. Opening remark was delivered by the Officer in Charge of MMTS LCdr (N) Dimuthu Kodikara. The Boatmaster Grade I – 02 (2023) comprises of 19 officers whereas STCW Basic Safety course no.08 – 2023(S) consists of 20 sailors. Both courses will be spanned for 5 weeks of time and are scheduled to be terminated on 21st Dec 23. The objective of Boatmaster Grade I course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge to obtain Boatmaster Grade I license. STCW Basic Safety course leads to obtain the Continuous Discharging Certificate (CDC). The courses enhance the competencies of the participants to carry out the duties onboard small commercial vessels and merchant ships in a very successful and effective manner. The courses are conducted in accordance with the directives of the Director General of Merchant Shipping and the International Maritime Organization’s Constitution. Merchant Marine Training School conducts classes seeking to impart quality training for the course participants with the vision of producing suitable, skilled seafarers for the field of merchant shipping. |
