THE CATALYST FOR FUTURE MARITIME LEADERSHIP – MARLEX 2023

Maritime Leadership Exercise (MARLEX) for 29 OUTs from Direct Entry 01/2022 was conducted by the OTW within the inner limits of Trincomalee harbour on 10th  November 2023. This one-day exercise is designed to develop leadership skills and the decision-making ability of Officer Under Trainees (OUTs) in order to mould them as future leaders and decision makers to serve the nation.             

MARLEX capsule was consisted with four main operations, namely, Barrier patrol, Corden and search at York Island, Anti- human smuggling and Search and rescue mission. The outline plan was consisted of issuing Exercise orders, briefing the execution plan by OUTs, execution of task and debriefing by both OUTs as well as the Directing Staff. Further, more situations were developed during each and every evolution by the DSs of OTW and simulated live experience of situations. Fundamentally, OUTs were divided into two syndicates for methodical assessment and they were appointed as Overall Commanders, Commanding Officers and Executive Officers on their respective craft. MARLEX was successfully terminated with a debriefing by OUTs and DSs.
