9th EBL; Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne (Retd) shared his own experiences with Young Naval Officers

The Ninth Experience Based Lecture (EBL) was held with a high note on 30th September 2023 under the guidance of Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva and the supervision of the Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy (NMA) Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage. The lecture was conducted by Admiral DNS Ulugetenne (Retd), RSP*, VSV, USP, ndc, psc at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium with the participation of Flag Rank Officers, Heads of Departments, Commanding Officers, Officers from the ships and establishments and Officer Under Trainees.

Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the 24th Commander of the Navy shared his own experiences as a young naval officer on two incidents namely as a Convoy Commander and as the Officer in Charge of the Naval Detachment Nagasivanthurei in 1987 and 1993 respectively. The lecture could broaden the decision-making ability and command responsibility of the young officers especially the prospective Navy Officers who are undergoing training at NMA. He further emphasized the importance of leadership from his own experience and truly pointed out some of the leadership traits expected from young officers to lead the navy in the future. A memento was presented to the guest speaker to mark the event along with the heartiest appreciation.
