Certificate awarding ceremony of Boatmaster Grade-1 course no. 01-2023 & STCW Basic Safety Course and Maritime English (Support Level) course no. 04- 2023 was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium, Naval and Maritime Academy on 15th Jun 2023 to mark the termination of the courses. The ceremony was graced by the Commandant, Naval & Maritime Academy, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage as the Chief Guest & Mr. Ajith Wijesinghe, the Director General of Merchant Shipping as the Guest of Honour. Boatmaster Grade-1 course no. 01-2023 & STCW Basic Safety course no. 04-2023 commenced with 18 officers and 20 sailors respectively on 15th May 2023 and all trainees were awarded the certificates as they have successfully completed the courses. The objective of this course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the training required to obtain the Boatmaster Grade-1 license and Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC). The course enhances the competencies of the participants to carry out the duties on board merchant ships / small commercial vessels in a very successful and effective manner. The courses are conducted in accordance with the directives of the Director General of Merchant Shipping and as per the International Maritime Organization’s Constitution. This course will steer the future aspirations of officers and sailors who wish to retire from the Sri Lanka Navy  in near future after serving minimum period of 20 years, 22 years or 12 years respectively and turning their careers into a new dimension. |
