The Passing Out Parade and commissioning ceremony of sixty four (64) Midshipmen of 36th KDU (Legal), 37th KDU Intake Midshipmen and Midshipmen of the 62nd and 63rd Intakes of Sri Lanka Navy who have successfully completed their basic naval training and transiting their role and duty as Commissioned Naval Officers was held on 15th December 2022 at the main Parade Ground of Naval & Maritime Academy, Trincomalee.
The Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral R Hari Kumar graced the event as the Chief Guest and took the salute on the invitation of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenna. The ceremony was held with the participation of Clergies, ,Defense Attaches, Senior Officers from Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command, senior officers from sister services, Police and parents of the newly commissioned officers.
The climax of the day’s preceding began with the presentation of special awards by the Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy. Midshipman DMSP Jayalath of the 37th Intake KDU won the best Midshipman award while securing highest aggregate in overall subjects and highest aggregate in professional subjects. Midshipman AASS Bandara won the best sportsman award and Midshipman MN Madushani won the best marksmanship award of the 37th Intake KDU.
Further, Midshipman PMKHS Senevirathna won the sword of honor and adjudicated as the best Midshipman of 63rd Intake of Officer Cadets in Sri Lanka Navy as well as awarded best sportsman. Midshipman TMDM Thennakoon was awarded as highest aggregate in overall subjects and Midshipman DGS Avandya was awarded as highest aggregate in professional subjects. Besides, Midshipman RPNN Rajapaksha won the award for highest aggregate in nautical subjects and Midshipman RANAJ Ranasingha was elected as the best marksman of 62 Intake.
Addressing the congregation, the Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral R Hari Kumar congratulated each one of the newly commissioned Officers to having chosen this challenging, satisfying and incredibly exciting way of life. He emphasized that an ocean of opportunities lies on the head of the officers who have passed out. Moreover, he highlighted that enormous responsibility lies upon the officers to be the best leader in order to take navy to greater heights.
The glittering spectacle concluded with a spectacular drill display, cultural performance and a Band Display followed by a ceremonial sunset held in accordance with time-honored naval customs.
