The training command clinches the inter command basketball championship – 2022

Exhibiting sterling performances in the Inter-Command Basketball Championship 2022, the Training Command accomplished the tournament on a high note, clinching the basketball championship. The Training Command was exclusively represented by the players of the Naval & Maritime Academy.

After six days of hard tussle, the Training Command’s men’s and women’s basketball teams were crowned as champions of the Inter-Command Basketball Tournament-2022, which was held at NMA Basketball Courts from 26th September to 1st October 2022.  This tournament was attracted by more than 200 players from all Naval Commands. The Training Command women’s team was unbeaten, and both teams were able to maintain the highest standard of performance throughout the tournament, and opponents ran off the court during the tournament due to their incredible skills. Men’s teams were divided into 2 groups consisting with 5 teams in group ‘A’ and  4 teams in group ‘B’, while 03 women’s teams were in group ‘A’ and ‘B’.

On the first day of the tournament Training Command women’s team beat the Eastern Naval Command women’s team. On the second day Training Command women’s team secured the group top position in group ‘B’ by beating Western Naval Command women’s’ team. On the same day Training Command men’s team also gained their first win beating Afloat Command. On the third day Training Command men’s team beat North Central Naval Command. On the fourth day Training Command men’s team beat Northern Naval Command and secured the 2nd place in group ‘A’.  In the semifinals, both men and women teams of the Training Command were selected for the finals.

In the finals the Training Command men’s team became the men’s’ champions beating North Western command men’s team and Training Command women’s team also became the champions beating Northern Command women’s’ team.

The Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral KJ Kularathne graced the prize awarding ceremony as the chief guest. O/Cdt UADVS Samarasekara from Training Command was awarded as the best player in the men’s’ category and LO/Cdt KHT Kavindi was awarded as the best player while W/L/PTI RKK Malini was awarded as the most promising player in the women’s category.
