INSTRUCTOR LIEUTENANT COMMANDER SOMASIRI DEVENDRA (RETD) FELICITATED BY NMA

The Naval & Maritime Academy (NMA) honoured Instructor Lieutenant Commander Somasiri Devendra(Retd), the 06th  Commandant of the Academy at a grand felicitation ceremony held on 08th September 2024 for the invaluable contributions and significant role played in shaping the future of the Navy. The event took place at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium (AWKA), NMA under the distinguished patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

Upon arrival, Instructor Lieutenant Commander Somasiri Devendra (Retd) and his spouse were warmly welcomed by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera. The ensuing ceremony highlighted his significant contributions, leadership and dedication during his tenure as an instructor in the Navy and as Commandant of the Naval & Maritime Academy.

In conjunction with the felicitation, the Commander of the Navy officially launched the newly developed Graduate Writing Centre (GWC) and Lieutenant Commander Devendra (Retd) was given the honour of launching the Learning Management System (LMS), marking a significant step towards the educational resources of NMA. Instructor Lieutenant Commander Somasiri Devendra (Retd) along with his spouse and daughter were presented with special mementoes at the event.

In addition to the main ceremony on 08th September, Lieutenant Commander Devendra interacted with OUTs sharing his experiences during his tenure at NMA and in the Navy.

The President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Mala Lamahewa, Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, Director General Training, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Commandant NMA, Commodore Rohan Joseph, Flag Rank officers, officers and sailors in the Eastern Naval Area were also present on this occasion.
