Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) Basic Safety Course no. 02-2024(O) and Course no. 05-2024(S) was held at Mini Auditorium of the Naval and Maritime Academy on 08th August 2024. The ceremony was graced by the Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Rohan Joseph as the Chief Guest.
The Courses commenced on 08th August 2024 with the participation of 07 officers and 35 sailors. Further, all the course participants were awarded with the certificates for STCW Basic Safety modules on successful completion of the particular course.
The objective of this course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the training required to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) from the Merchant Shipping Secretariat. The course enhances the competencies of the participants to carryout the duties onboard Merchant Ships in a successful and effective manner. The course was conducted in accordance with the directives of the Merchant Shipping Secretariat and the STCW Convention.
All instructors of the Merchant Marine Training School and lecturers conducted respective modules to provide qualitative training for the course participants with the broad vision of producing suitable and skilled seafarers to the field of Merchant Shipping. This course steers the future aspirations of naval personnel who wish to retire from the Sri Lanka Navy in future and turning their careers into a new dimension.
