GRAND CONCLUSION : 36TH AND 37TH (TECHNICAL)  INTAKES KDU  COMMISSIONING CEREMONY CULMINATES AT NAVAL AND MARITIME ACADEMY.

The Commissioning Parade, held on 18th July 2024, at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) Trincomalee, showcased the graduation of 25 officer under trainees of 36th and 37th Intakes (Technical) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. The event, graced by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral UVMP Perera as the Chief Guest took the salute of the parade and Brigadier Michael Rosette the Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

At the awarding ceremony for outstanding achievement, Midshipman MSM Marshad from the 37th Intake (Technical) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University secured Best Technical Officer Award.

The Commander of the Navy extended his heartfelt congratulation to the newly commissioned officers and emphasized the importance of their training in instilling Navy’s values and professionalism. He commended their dedication, hard work and perseverance throughout their training and emphasized the importance of their roles in safeguarding the nation. The Chief Guest encouraged the newly commissioned officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity as they embark on their career. The Commander of the Navy stated that he is confident in their abilities to face future challenges with courage and exemplary leadership and wished them success and honour in their service to the country.

Among the crowd attended to witness the event were Most Ven Mahasanga, other religious clergies, Flag Rank Officers, Diplomatic Corps, Government officials, Officers from Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command, along with Senior Officers and under trainees from sister services. Further, the gathering included parents and relatives of the newly commissioned officers, making it a distinguished and diverse audience.

The Commissioning parade came to a close with a captivating cultural performance by the Navy Cultural troupe, Drill and Band displays, followed by a ceremonial sunset steeped in naval customs and traditions. The Commander of the Navy expressed his sincere gratitude for being invited to this vibrant and splendid evening. Additionally, he acknowledged the efforts of the Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy and the faculty members for orchestrating such a visually stunning event at its grandest scale.
