MERCHANT MARINE TRAINING SCHOOL (MMTS) COMMENCES THE  STCW BASIC SAFETY AND MARITIME ENGLISH SUPPORT LEVEL COURSES AT NMA

Stepping into another phase, the Merchant Marine Training School commenced the STCW Basic Safety Course No.02-2024(O) and No.05-2024(S) on 08 Jul 24. The Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Rohan Joseph graced the event as the chief guest. The course consist of 07 officers and 35 sailors, will be spanned for 5 weeks of time and is scheduled to be terminated on 08 Aug 24.

The objective of the STCW Basic Safety course is to enable course participants to obtain the Continuous Discharging Certificate (CDC). The course enhances the competencies of the participants to carry out the duties onboard merchant ships in very successful and effective manner. The course is conducted in accordance with the directives of the Director General of Merchant Shipping and the International Maritime Organisation’s Constitution.

The Merchant Marine Training School conducts classes to impart quality training on course participants with the vision of producing suitable and skilled seafarers in the field of merchant shipping. This course will steer the future aspirations of naval personnel who seek second career opportunities upon leaving the Sri Lanka Navy in the near future.
