33rd JNSC made their visit to Sober Island ( ex amet insula)

The 33rd Junior Naval Staff Course set out on their expedition to Sober Island on 12 Aug 23. The main aim of the excursion was to develop attitudes of researching and exploration, leadership qualities, and organizing ability of student officers. So the exercise put a lot of emphasis on enhancing the student officers’ capacities for teamwork, planning and execution.

The students unveiled the treasures such as heritage, nature, and military, hidden in the Sober Island after conducting in-depth desk. The officers presented their findings in significant locations, some of them were dated back to the Portuguese era. The excursion produced an engaging environment for student officers to break their monotonous life which was full of studies. The outing was also featured with water sports competitions, a beach clean-up initiative and it was concluded with a luncheon on the island’s poshest beach. The presence of the Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore, Buddhika Liyanagamage at the ending session was a real source of encouragement for the student officers.
