Lady officers & Woman sailors ready to dominate shallow waters.

The first of its kind IPC Handling foundation course designed for the lady officers and women sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy was inaugurated on 08th November 2022 at Naval and Maritime Academy Trincomalee with 04 Lady Officers and 09 women sailors. The Commandant Commodore Damian Fernando graced the occasion as the chief guest.  

The initiative was set in motion for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka Navy, as per an idea mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, allowing the opportunity for Navy women who are willing to engage in IPC Operations. Accordingly, 04 lady officers and 09 women sailors who met the basic requirement for IPC Operations, were selected to follow the module. The course was planned to conduct for 04 weeks from 08th November to 05th December 2022 at the Navigation School in NMA.

IPC Handling foundation course for lady officers and women sailors has been designed to carry out patrol within harbor, harbour entrances and coastal shallow waters. The course is an in-house training capsule specially designed for the lady officers and women sailors who are going to take over the command and handling of IPC.
