Training command  crowned volleyball champions 2022

Men’s Volleyball Team of Naval and Maritime Academy which comprised of Training Command became the champions of Inter Command Volleyball Tournament -2022 which was held at SLNS Nipuna from 10th to 15th August. More than 200 players representing all Naval Commands, participated in this tournament to unleash their skills in the court. Men’s teams divided in to 2 groups consisting with 05 teams in group A and 4 teams to group B, while women’s teams divided 03 teams each for Group A and Group B. After six days of tussle, the Training Command won men’s Inter Command Volleyball Champions 2022. The unbeaten Training Command men’s team were able to maintain its standard throughout the tournament and due to their solid defense and attacking skills opponents failed to won more than one set throughout the tournament.

In the very first day of the Inter Command Volleyball Tournament men’s team beat Northern Naval Command, Western Naval Command teams and women’s team lost to the North Western Command.  In the second day Training Command women’s team beat Western Naval Command and not selected for the semifinals according to the point table. In the fourth day Training Command men’s team secured group top position in Group A by beating North Western Command team and North Central Command team. In the semifinals Training Command Men’s team beat the Southern Naval Command and qualified to play for the finals. The co-ordination of the players, execution of game plans and fitness level made the Training Command unbeatable champions even in the finals against the Northern Naval Command.

In the finals Training Command team won first 3 sets by scoring points 25/18, 25/23 and 25/22. Training Command team captain Lt DES Jayakody awarded with the best player and best blocker of the tournament while REM DP Piyarathna awarded with the best Setter and OD LMPL Jayalath awarded with the best libero player in the inter command volleyball tournament 2022. Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral EMHSN Ekanayake graced the finals and prize awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest.
