COMMANDANT’S CUP SAILING REGATTA 2024 SETS SAIL IN TRINCOMALEE

The ‘Commandant’s Cup Sailing Regatta – 2024’ organized for the fourth time by the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee commenced at the Commander Shanthi Bahar Memorial Sailing Club on 18th August 2024. At the invitation of Commandant NMA, Commodore Rohan Joseph, the opening ceremony was graced by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, as the Chief Guest.

The sailing regatta, hosted under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, is attended by 22 officer under trainees from Naval Academies in China, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and the competition is supported by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka (YASL).

The events of the competition will be held from 19th to 21st August in the alluring waters of Sandy Bay, Trincomalee. The event will showcase the strong camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participating nations, promising an exciting experience. It also presents an excellent opportunity to attract tourists to the country’s aquatic sports scene.
