The Naval and Maritime Academy marked a historic milestone by conducting its first ever Ship Diving Officer course, which commenced on 24th April 2024. This pioneering initiative represents a significant advancement in the academy’s training capabilities and sets a new benchmark for maritime education and naval preparedness of SLN.
Throughout the programme, candidates underwent demanding modules covering advanced diving techniques and supervising skills, designed to equip them with the expertise required for ship diving operations. Despite the challenging nature of the course, five officers successfully completed it. S/Lt KNT Perera was awarded the title of Best Diving Officer of the course.
The closing ceremony took place on 20th June 2024, and was graced by Commodore Rohan Joseph, the Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy, alongwith academic staff. The event underscored the course’s significance in enhancing the SLN operational effectiveness and celebrated the graduates’ achievements.
The successful completion of this inaugural course highlights the academy’s dedication to develop skilled naval professionals capable of meeting the complex demands of modern maritime operations, indicating a bright future of SLN Diving.
