OPENING CEREMONIES OF GR II, UC/UW II, PO ‘Q’ ME, PO ‘Q’ ME TM, L ‘Q’ EM, EW AND P III ME (CE) COURSES AT NMA ON 1ST JANUARY 2024

The opening ceremonies of GR II Course No. 01/2024, UC/UW Course No. 01/2024, Petty Officer (ME) Qualifying Course No. 01/2024, Petty Officer (ME) TM Qualifying Course No. 01/2024, Leading (EM) Qualifying Course No. 01/2024, EW Course No. 01/2024 and Phase III (ME) CE course No. 01/2024 was held in a high note at respective schools on 01st January 2024.

The GR II Course is specially designed to impart further professional knowledge to the sailors who have successfully completed the GR III course and carry out assigned duties more professionally. Further, on completion of the course, they will be qualified to undergo further training in the field of gunnery. The course is comprised of 54 course participants. The Instructor Officer of Gunnery School Lieutenant Commander (G) PS Wathsala officially inaugurated the ceremony and the Chief Instructor of the Gunnery School, FCPO WDR Wijethilaka welcomed all the course participants.

Both Petty Officer Qualifying ME 01/2024 and Petty Officer Qualifying ME (TM) 01/2024 courses consist of 30 sailors each and the courses will unfold for 27 weeks to enhance the knowledge, and practical experience of sailor under trainees and inculcate leadership qualities which are mandatory to perform their duties as Petty Officers in the Engineering Branch Sri Lanka Navy. The Opening Address was held in the presence of Commander (E) KM Chaminda Lal, the Officer in Charge of the Engineering School.

L‘Q’ EM/ REM Course is specially designed to impart knowledge on theoretical and practical aspects of the electrical and electronic fields to improve the qualities and capabilities of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering branch sailors. The Officer in Command of Electrical & Electronic Engineering School, Lieutenant Commander (L) SASM Samarakoon graced the occasion as the chief guest and addressed the SUTs. The L‘Q’ EM/ REM Course is comprised of 22 nos of Leading Electrical Mechanic SUTs and 08 nos of Leading Radio Electronic Mechanic SUTs. The total 26 weeks duration of the course has been scheduled to be terminated on 29th June 2024.

PHASE III ME (CE) Qualifying Course is specially designed to enhance the professional knowledge of the sailors in the civil engineering field who have successfully completed the Basic Training Course. Further, on completion of the course, they will be qualified to obtain NVQ Level 3 in Construction Craftsman Masonry, Wood Craftsman Building, Painter (building) & Plumber. The course is comprised of 23 participants. The Second in charge of the Civil Engineering  School, Lt (CE) BMA Gunasekara officially inaugurated the ceremony and the Chief Instructor FCPO MGCB Samarawickrama welcomed all the course participants. The course participants have to undergo 27 week training program and the course will be terminated on 05th July 2024.

UC/UW II Qualifying Course is specially designed to the knowledge of the sailors who have successfully completed the UC/UW II course and carry out assigned duties more professionally. Further, on  completion of the course, they will be qualified to undergo further training in the field of ASW. The course is comprised of 28 participants. The Officer in Command of ASW School Commander (ASW) KMP Perera officially inaugurated the ceremony and the Chief instructor of the ASW School, MCPO PRMGB Pussalamankada welcomed all the course participants. The course participants have to undergo an 18-week training program at NMA and the course will be terminated on 05th May 2024.

EW 01/2024 Course is a short two-week course which has specially been designed to impart EW theoretical knowledge for communication and intelligence branch Sailors on modern Electronic Warfare (EW) aspects and to enhance the knowledge and professional skills in the field of EW. The course is comprised of 20 participants including 10 Communication Branch sailors and 10 Intelligence Branch sailors. The Officer in Command of Communication School Commander (C) KJP Rohana officially inaugurated the course with a successful opening address.
