The training command clinches the inter command badminton championship – 2023

Exhibiting sterling performances in the Inter-Command Badminton Championship 2023, the Training Command starts the Sport calendar 2023 with a high note by clinching the badminton championship. The Training Command was exclusively represented by the players of the Naval & Maritime Academy.

After five days of hard tussle, the Training Command’s men’s badminton team was crowned as champions of the Inter-Command Badminton Tournament-2023, which was held at SLNS Gemunu – Late Commander ‘Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial’ Indoor Sports Complex from 06th to 10th March 2023.  This tournament was attracted by more than 200 players from all Naval Commands. The Training Command men’s team was unbeaten, and able to maintain the highest standard of performance throughout the tournament. Men’s teams were divided into 2 groups consisting with 4 teams in group ‘A’ and  5 teams in group ‘B’, while 03 women’s teams were in group ‘A’ and ‘B’.

Training Command men’s team become the top in group ‘B’ and semifinals played against ENC. Training Command men’s team beat ENC and selected for the finals against WNC. At the same time Training Command women’s team lost in the semifinals against NCC and obtain the 4th place in the tournament. In the finals the Training Command men’s team became the men’s’ champions by beating Western command men’s team.

The Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva graced the prize awarding ceremony as the chief guest and Training Command’s men’s badminton team was crowned as champions of the Inter-Command Badminton Tournament-2023.
