05 Service entry candidates embark on their naval careers as commissioned officers

On completion of successfully naval training at Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) Commissioning and Sword Awarding Ceremony of five (05) Service entry candidates of Service Entry 01/2022 batch was held on 11th March 2023 at the main Parade Ground of NMA with the guidance of the Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy Rear Admiral Damian Fernando. With that their role and duty was transited to Commissioned Naval Officers of SLN.

The Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and took salute. The ceremony was held with the representation of Director General Budget & Finance Rear Admiral MWV Marapana, Director General Training Rear Admiral AAAR Abeysinghe from Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command and parents/ family members of officers being commissioned.

Service Entry Candidate (SEC) MTS Perera won the award of Best Service Entry Candidate and he was also able to secure the Best Marksmanship award. SEC LPS Rangana was awarded with the Highest Aggregate in Overall Subjects.

Addressing the congregation, the Chief Guest Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara congratulated the newly commissioned Officers for completing their both academic and essential practical training in order to have the commission. He also highlighted the rapid changes in technology and innovation around and requirement of continuous training to improve knowledge and skills to perform as highly professional and competent officers to address future challenges.  

On completion of the parade, band display and cultural dancing event was performed by the SLN band and cultural troupes to entertain the gathering.
