The office of Director Academic Studies was introduced into the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) on 31st<\/sup> July 2003 by realising the necessity of an independent office for administration of all the academic affairs pertaining to affiliated basic degree (Bachelor of Naval Studies \u2013 BNavalSt) of University of Kelaniya\u00a0 conducted at NMA.<\/p>

At present, with the expansion of academic spectrum of NMA, this office is undertaking five different Postgraduate (Degree\/Diploma) \/ Basic Degrees which are affiliated to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (Member of Association of Commonwealth Universities and International Association of Universities).<\/p>

The main objectives of office of DAS is to ensure the quality of education at NMA by involving on all required systems, processes, and steps related to;<\/p>

  1. Revision of curricula of degrees.<\/li>
  2. Students\u2019 registration process into degrees.<\/li>
  3. Conduct of degrees and examinations.<\/li>
  4. Analyse of examination results.<\/li>
  5. Evaluation of results and monitoring students\u2019 progress.<\/li>
  6. Professional development of the staff.<\/li>
  7. Introduction of new degrees and diplomas by identifying potential training programmes for affiliation.<\/li><\/ol>

    Significantly, the office of DAS ensures the conformity of institutional actions with the parent university bylaws and Sri Lankan Qualifications Framework in all academic aspects.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    In accordance, with the bylaws and regulations of the parent University which the Naval & Maritime Academy has been affiliated to provide facilities coordinating with her. In order to obtain basic and postgraduate degrees for student officers by conducting respective courses and examinations effectively, efficiently and transparently. Further, the establishment of systems and processes to develop and inculcate the lecturers and officer instructors of schools with required knowledge and attitude in view of ensuring standard education.\u00a0<\/p>
