ABOUT US

The Medical School was established on 21st May 1998 to provide comprehensive medical training for both Officer and Sailor under Trainees to uplift their practical and theoretical knowledge in effective and efficient manner. Subsequently Medical School was shifted to SLNS Thakshila on 26th December 2016 and later Medical Training Unit was established in the NMA. The Medical School was re-established in NMA on 28th December 2019.

The physical resources of the Medical School are comprised of a model Emergency Treatment Unit and a Demonstration room, in order to uplift practical ability for trainees.

Providing theoretical and practical knowledge to produce efficient officers and sailors with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to bring healthy sailors to the country through a quality health service.

Officer Training

  • Identify the importance of creating healthy Navel Personal to run the Navy
  • Recognize the importance of protecting Naval personal from invisible germs by maintaining the own safety
  • Improve their professional knowledge by changing the habitual actions
  • Improve their professional knowledge regarding life saving techniques and first aid methods.
  • Imparting sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical training for officers to achieve professional medical training required for respective level to perform their specified duties in the most efficient manner, lading to excellence in the Naval service.

Sailor Training

  • Acquire the leadership, administrative standards and eligible to be advanced to the Petty Officer (MM/PM) of Medical branch in the Sri Lanka Navy.
  • To expose medical sailors to naval training after their Phase 111 qualifying training and to refresh professional knowledge.

The course is designed to impart a basic medical knowledge and so that trainee should achieve the standard of medical assistant (class II) to perform departmental work.

  • This module is designed to provide basic first aid knowledge to minimize accidents while on duty and maintain healthy life.

  • This module is designed to help build a healthy successful life and upgrade their knowledge of first aid.
