The Medical School was established on 21st May 1998 to provide comprehensive medical training for both Officer and Sailor under trainees to uplift their practical and theoretical knowledge in effective and efficient manner. Subsequently, Medical School was shifted to SLNS Thakshila on 26th December 2016 and later Medical Training Unit was established at the NMA. The Medical School was reestablished at NMA on 28th December 2019.

The physical resources of the Medical School is comprised of a model Emergency Treatment Unit and a Demonstration room, in order to uplift practical ability of trainees.

Policy

Providing theoretical and practical knowledge to produce efficient officers and sailors with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to bring healthy sailors to the country through a quality health service.

Sailor Training

Leading to PO (Medical) Refresher Course.

Acquire the leadership, administrative standards and eligible to be advanced to the Petty Officer (MM/PM) of Medical branch in the Sri Lanka Navy.

To expose medical sailors to naval training after their Phase 111 qualifying training and to refresh professional knowledge.


Phase III Medical Assistant Qualifying Course.

The course is designed to impart a basic medical knowledge and so that the trainee should achieve the standard of medical assistant (class II) to perform departmental work.


Basic Health Care for all Sailor Under Trainees – Phase III.

This module is designed to provide basic first aid knowledge to minimize accidents while on duty and to maintain healthy life.


Intermediate Health Care for all Sailor Under Trainees – Advanced Course.

This module is designed to help build a healthy successful life and upgrade their knowledge of first aid.
