The passing out parade of the first batch of Direct Entry Officers and the first batch of Service Entry Candidates in 2019 who have undergone rigorous and comprehensive training of twelve months was conducted on 11 Sep 20 in Naval and Maritime Academy Trincomalee in a sensational and variegated manner mesmerizing the eyes of all the invitees and the families who have arrived to witness this ceremony. Adding more value, the occasion was graced by the Commander Western Naval Area RAdm Sumith Weerasinghas as the chief guest.
In recognition of commitment, dedication and skills demonstrated by both under trainee batches during their training, following under trainees were awarded trophies by the Chief Guest. The trophy for the Best Marksmen was awarded to S/Lt DCB Jayasinghe and trophies for the obtaining the highest aggregate in academics and the Best Direct Entry Officer was awarded to S/Lt WHLC Wijerathne from the Direct Entry batch. The trophy for the Best Sportsman was awarded to Service Entry Candidate RTH Ranjith and the trophy for the Best Marksmen was awarded to Service Entry Candidate RMSM Rathnayake. The memorial sword presented by Lieutenant Commander MH Weliwitagoda in tribute to Rear Admiral DV Hunter, which is being awarded to the Best Service Entry Candidate was awarded to Service Entry Candidate RMSM Rathnayake.
The sward is a symbol of honour, pride and bravery for a naval officer which is being presented in the occasion of commissioning. On this day, the presenting of swards for the commissioning of the six Service Entry Candidates of the first batch of 2019 was done by the chief guest Real Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe.
The parade was witness by senior officers representing the Naval Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command.
Thirteen Direct Entry Officers and six Service Entry Candidates marched off with pride through the parade ground marking culmination of the POP.
