The certificate awarding ceremony of 25th Logistics Sub Lieutenant Technical course, was held at Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 17,sup>th May 2020. Commodore Prasanna Mahawithana the Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates to the graduated officers.
Marking the successful culmination of 25th Logistics Sub Lieutenant Technical course, 23 student officers received certificates in recognition of their excellent academic performances. Sub Lieutenant KL Madumadawa NRS 3779 was adjudged the First in the Order of Merit for overall performance.
Sub Lieutenant Technical Course is the first professional course that any young naval officer undergoes after his commissioning. During the period of year long training, the student officers were given theoretical and practical knowledge on Local and Foreign Procurement, Stores Management, Secretariat Practice, Victualling and Clothing, Pay and Pension etc. Consequently, this knowledge would be extremely vital to perform their duties well, in their future assignments at sea and ashore.
Most of the training was conducted by the staff of the Naval and Maritime Academy whilst some modules were covered by the guest lecturers nominated by NHQ. Further, these student officers were attached to outside institutes to follow training on Supply Chain Management at NIBM, Quality Management at SLSI, Hotel Management at Hotel School Colombo, Import and Export Procedure at Chamber of Commerce and Public Procurement at SLIIDA.
Addressing the gathering, while congratulating the officers who successfully completed the course, the Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy highlighted the importance of training for job performance and holding responsibilities as leaders of the future Navy.
