44 YOUNG OFFICERS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED SUB LIEUTENANT TECHNICAL COURSES AT NMA


The certificate awarding ceremony of 22nd Executive and 20th Naval Patrolman /Provost Sub Lieutenant Technical courses, were held at Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 05th May 2020. Commodore Prasanna Mahawithana the Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates to Executive & NPM/Pro Sub courses respectively.

Marking the successful culmination of 22nd Executive and 20th Naval Patrolman/ Provost Sub Lieutenant Technical courses, 44 student officers received certificates in recognition of their excellent academic performances. Sub Lieutenant LS Gamage NRX 3808 and Sub Lieutenant (Marine) HMPU Senarathne NRY 3738 were adjudged the First in the Order of Merit for overall performance in 22nd Executive, and 20th Naval Patrolman / Provost Sub Lieutenant Technical courses respectively.

Sub Lieutenant Technical Course is the first professional course that any young naval officer undergoes after his commissioning. During the period of year long training, the student officers were given theoretical and practical knowledge on Navigation, Gunnery, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Communication and Supply and Secretariat. Consequently, this knowledge would be extremely vital to perform their duties well, in their future assignments at sea and ashore. Most of the training was conducted by the staff of the Naval and Maritime Academy whilst some modules were covered by the guest lecturers. Further, these student officers were attached to outside institutes to follow training on Diving, Explosive Ordnance and Disposal (EOD) and Meteorology modules.

Addressing the gathering, while congratulating the officers who successfully completed the course, the Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy highlighted the importance of training for job performance and holding responsibilities as leaders of the future Navy.
