“STROLLING DOWN THE MEMORY LANE - 35 YEARS IN SLN”


RAdm WASS Perera, RWP, RSP, USP, ndu,psc joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 07th January 1985 as an Officer Cadet of 13th Intake and He underwent his officer cadet training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee. On completion of basic training, he followed Sub Lieutenant Technical Course in India in 1988-1989, Navigation specialization Course in India in 1994, Naval Staff Course in Bangladesh in 2002, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Protection Course in United Kingdom in 2006, Maritime Security Cooperation Course in United States of America in 2010 and Defence and Strategic Studies Course in National Defence University, Beijing in China in 2015/2016. He holds Master’s Degree in Management (Defence Studies) and an Advanced Diploma in Defence and Strategic Studies (ADIDSS)

During his naval tenure he has served various appointments onboard ships/crafts and establishments. Specially,hehas commanded Long Patrol Boat (P231), Fast Attack Craft (P454), Landing Craft Mechanized (SLNS Ranagaja), Fast Gun Boat (SLNS Ranajaya) and A520.

Further, he was one of the rare officers to serve onboard SLNS Sayura as the Initial Navigating Officer, thenas Executive Officer and finally commanded SLNS Sayura, the flagship of SLN during 2012/2013.


In recognition of his act of bravery, he has been awarded Rana Soora Padakakama (RSP) in 1994 and Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) in 1996. He received Utthama Seva Padakkama (USP) in 2005 for his unblemished service to the Navy. Further, he has been commended twice by the Commander of the Navy for his exceptional contribution to the motherland.


He has held many key appointments including Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Deputy Area Commander Northern Naval Area, Director Naval Victualling and Clothing, Deputy Director General Coast Guard, Director General Personnel, Commander North Western Naval Area and presently he is holding the appointment as Commandant Volunteer Naval Force.
