Commodore Kalana Jinadasa assumed duties as the 33rd Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee, in March 2018.

Commodore Jinadasa, who is a proud product of Royal College, Colombo, joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet to the 16th Intake on 15th June 1987 and successfully completed his Cadet training. He is the receiver of the prestigious Sword of Honour as the Best Midshipman of the 16th Intake. Commodore Jinadasa was selected to the year long International Midshipman course in April 1989 at prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in United Kingdom.

He followed the Sub Lieutenant Technical Course at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee and Gunnery specialization Course at Indian Naval Ship Dronacharya in India. Commodore Jinadasa followed his Naval Command and Staff Course at Naval Command College, China in 2002/03 and subsequently selected to attend the Naval Command Course at United States Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island in 2013/14. He has earned Master degree in Business Administration and also a Diploma holder of Conflict Resolution and Skills Development. Commodore Jinadasa is also an alumni of George Marshal Center for Security Studies in Munich, Germany, where he has attended to the Program on Terrorism and Security Studies (PTSS).

Commodore Jinadasa is the first Training Commander of the Naval Recruit Training Center at Poonewa and also served as the Training Commander at SLNS Gemunu twice. He trained many Naval Officers as their Divisional/Training officer during appointments at Training establishments which includes two previous tenures at the Naval & Maritime Academy.

He held many operational appointments as Staff Officer Operations, Captain Operations Department in Northern Naval Area and Senior Staff Officer (Operations) and Deputy Director Naval Operations during the conflict period. Further, he held the appointments of Acting Director Naval Inspectorate, Deputy Director Naval Weapons and Senior Air Defence Co-ordinator at NHQ during 2007- 2009. He has also entrusted with special appointment as Deputy Director Naval Victualing & Clothing at the Naval Headquarters and instrumental in introducing Kit packs to the SLN.

Commodore Jinadasa served at sea on many platforms and commanded Fast Attack Craft on two tenures and Offshore Petrol Vessels, SLNS Jayasagara and SLNS Sagara during the Conflict period. He was appointed as the first Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) and instrumental in initiating Operational Sea Training (OST) in the Sri Lanka Navy, in 2014. Commodore Kalana Jinadasa has held the positions of Director Naval Operations, Director Maritime Special Force, Director Naval Foreign Co-operation and Director Maritime Surveillance for over two years, prior being appointed as the Commandant of the prestigious Naval and Maritime Academy, he was the Deputy Area Commander of South Eastern Naval Area.

Commodore Jinadasa has been decorated for his gallantry and valor with Rana Sura Padakkama, and for his exceptional service rendered with Utthama Seva Padakkama, and eight other Service Medals. He is a recipient of Commander of the Navy’s Commendation Badge with 5 stars for the eight commendations received from five different Commanders of the Navy.

Commodore Kalana Jinadasa is married to Mrs. Gayathri in 1994 and is blessed with a small knit family of two daughters, Nethimi and Anuki.
