The certificate awarding ceremony of Service Entry Officers Technical Course 01/2018 was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium, Trincomalee on 27th October 2018. The acting Commodore Superintendent of Health (E), Surgeon Captain Mihidu Wijenayake graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Service Entry Officers Technical Course is an initiative taken by the Sri Lanka Navy to mould and craft officers of technical branches of the service entry stream, which is the first professional course they undergo upon commissioning. During the period of 27 weeks training, the student officers were imparted with theoretical and practical knowledge on their respective fields including managerial subjects and information technology, which will be helping them enormously in performing their duties in future assignments. Majority of the subject modules were conducted by the staff of the Academy while some modules were covered by the guest lecturers. Further, field Attachment of the course allowed Student Officers to visit and train in various naval and non-naval institutes pertain to respective branches.
Marking the successful culmination of Service Entry Officers Technical Course 01/2018, nine (09) student officers received certificates in recognition of their successful completion of training programme at NMA. Lieutenant (BM) TG Dharmadasa was adjudged the highest aggregate in professional subjects among the course participants.
During the remarks, the chief guest highlighted the importance of continuous learning and maintaining mental wellbeing as naval officers, while congratulating the officers who successfully completed the course.
The Training Captain Captain (H) Kosala Wijesooriya, Officer Training Officer and officers of the Naval and Maritime Academy were also present at the occasion.
